Free and Pro compared
The logbook itself is free. Pro adds weather replay, ADS-B prefill, alerts, advanced insights, backup, calendar sync, the AI assistant at full allowance, 20 scanned logbook pages a month and more document storage.
Pilot Lab has two plans: Free and Pro. There are no other tiers.
The core logbook is free and stays free. You can log every flight, see backend-calculated totals and currency, map your flights, keep notes and documents, and import or export your data without paying. Pro adds the features that cost us more to run or that save you real time.
Price
Pro costs NZD $9 a month or NZD $90 a year. Paying yearly works out at two months free.
A plan belongs to a workspace, not to a person. Your personal logbook is a workspace, so upgrading it upgrades your logbook.
What Free includes
- Unlimited logbook entries
- Totals and currency, calculated by Pilot Lab from your entries
- The flight-track map
- Notes, and documents up to 500 MB (files up to 25 MB each)
- CSV import and export
- Scanning a paper logbook, for a small number of pages
- The AI assistant, for a small number of questions each month
What Pro adds
This is the full list of what Pro adds, in the order the product shows it.
Table: Pro features
| Feature | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Radar replay | Replay the weather radar your tracked flight flew through, synced along the track |
| Detailed weather-replay map | Wind aloft, cloud, freezing level and hazards along your flight, on the timeline |
| ADS-B flight prefill | Find a tracked flight and prefill the entry's route, times and track |
| Personal Minima Tracker | Track your personal minima against decoded METARs |
| Currency & expiry alerts | A timeline of currency, medical and review expiries, with reminders before they lapse |
| Advanced insights | A configurable graph workspace and heatmap |
| Cloud backup | An automatic weekly copy of your logbook and documents in Dropbox or Google Drive |
| AI Chat Assistant | A much larger monthly allowance of questions, and opening a chat on the Flight Canvas |
| Calendar sync | Subscription links for Apple, Google or Outlook calendars, a Google Calendar connection, and importing flights from a calendar you already use |
| 20 scanned pages a month | Scan and import 20 paper logbook pages every month, instead of six in total. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month |
| More document storage | 5 GB of document storage and files up to 50 MB |
In the app, Pro features carry a Pro badge. On a Free workspace, a Pro feature shows a short description of what it does in its place, rather than a broken screen.
The free trial
When you sign up, your personal workspace gets Pro free for 14 days, with every Pro feature switched on except the monthly scanning allowance: during the trial, logbook scanning keeps the free allowance of six pages. You do not need to enter card details for this trial. Pilot Lab emails you three days before it ends, and again when it has ended.
If you would like to keep Pro, add payment details before the trial ends. See Upgrade to Pro and manage your subscription. If you do nothing, the workspace returns to Free and your data stays where it is. See What happens when Pro ends.
The sign-up trial is once per person. Creating another workspace does not start a new one.
Club workspaces
Club workspaces are not on the personal Free and Pro plans. They are set up with Pilot Lab directly and priced separately. See Club workspaces. Your own personal logbook keeps its own plan whether or not you belong to a club.
Founding Members
Founding Member is a standing you earn, not a plan you buy. It does not turn on Pro by itself. See Founding Members.
