Your profile and preferences belong to you, not to a workspace. They follow you into every workspace you are part of, including a club.

To open them, click your avatar in the top bar and choose Preferences, Notifications or Security. Settings opens on that tab, and the other tabs are listed beside it, including Profile. The same menu has Licences and ratings, Medicals and Flight reviews, which open those tabs, and a light, dark and system theme switch at the bottom.

Profile

The Profile tab holds:

  • First name, Last name and Display name. Your display name is what other people see, for example in a club workspace.
  • Email. To change it, use the change email option beside the field. Pilot Lab emails a code to the new address, and the change takes effect once you enter it.
  • Your avatar and a cover image.

Choose Save changes when you are done.

The Founding Member programme also sits at the bottom of this tab. See Founding Members.

Preferences

The Preferences tab controls how Pilot Lab looks and reads for you.

How you fly

Pick the flying you do most: Student, Private, Commercial & airline or Instructor. Pilot Lab sets itself up to match. If you chose more than one when you joined, the page says which one it picked.

Your setup summarises what that type gives you in four areas: Logbook columns, Totals, Home page and Training features. Choose Edit to change any of them:

  • Logbook columns: the columns your entries table and grid show.
  • Totals: the rows the time totals card shows.
  • Home page: the board your logbook home starts from. You can still arrange it there.
  • Training features: shows or hides Exams, Training syllabus and progress, and Lesson debriefs in the menus. Their pages still open. Private and Commercial & airline hide them by default.

Each area shows whether it is the default for your type or Changed. Use default puts one area back, and Reset all puts them all back.

Flying profiles

A flying profile is a set of defaults a new logbook entry starts with: the Type of flying, your Position and, where it applies, the Operating rule and whether new flights start as pilot flying or pilot monitoring. Add one for each kind of flying you do with Add profile, and choose Make default on the one new entries should start on. You can switch profile on a draft.

A profile only fills in a new entry. It never changes a flight you have already logged, or what a flight counts toward.

Duration format

Choose how flight durations appear across your logbook, dashboards and entries:

  • Decimal, one place (1.8), the default,
  • Decimal, two places (1.75), or
  • H:mm (1:45), hours and minutes.

This only changes how times are displayed. Your logbook stores the same time either way, and totals are calculated the same way.

Language and time

  • Timezone sets your own timezone.
  • Language sets the language of the interface.

Theme

Choose a light or dark theme, or System preference to follow your device. The switch at the bottom of the avatar menu changes it too.

Security

The Security tab is where you change your password: enter your current password, then the new one twice. This tab also holds the option to deactivate your account. See Export your data or close your account.

Notifications

Everything arrives in your inbox. The Notifications tab chooses what Pilot Lab also tells you about by email and on your phone, with a column each for Email and Push, and holds Product updates, an occasional email when a notable release ships. See Notifications and email for how each one works.

Your pilot records

The same settings area also has tabs for Licences, Medicals, Flight reviews and Exams. These are your records as a pilot, and Pilot Lab uses them for currency, expiry and licence progress. They are covered under Training and licences. Exams is left out of the list while your training features are hidden (see How you fly).

Profile or workspace?
