The AI assistant and your allowance
Ask the assistant about your own flying. Every workspace gets a monthly allowance of questions, and Pro raises it a long way.
The assistant answers questions about your flying using your own logbook, for example "How many hours have I flown in ZK-EBR this year?" or "When did I last fly at night?". It is available on Free with a small monthly allowance. AI Chat Assistant is a Pro feature that gives a much larger allowance and opens chats on the Flight Canvas.
Start a chat
Use the New chat button in the bar along the bottom of the screen. The assistant opens in a panel at the bottom right. Type into Ask your assistant… and send, or use the microphone for voice input.
Earlier conversations are under Chat history in the same bar, and open chats sit there as tabs so you can move between them. Your conversations are private to you.
The first time you open it, the assistant shows Before you start:
Your messages and the page you're viewing are sent to the configured AI provider to generate answers. The assistant never changes your logbook without your explicit confirmation.
Choose Got it to continue.
It asks before changing anything
The assistant can suggest changes, such as creating a draft logbook entry, a note or a planned flight. When it does, it shows the change and waits. Nothing is saved until you confirm it. While a change is waiting, the message box says Confirm the action above to continue….
Always check what it proposes. The assistant can misread a question or a record. Your logbook, not the assistant, is the record, and totals are always calculated by Pilot Lab from your entries.
Your monthly allowance
Each question and its answer counts as one turn against the workspace's monthly allowance.
- Free workspaces get a small number of questions each month.
- Pro workspaces get a much larger allowance.
The allowance belongs to the workspace and resets each calendar month. When you are running low, a line above the message box tells you, for example 3 questions left this month. Resets 1 Nov.
When the allowance is used up, the panel says so and when it resets. On Free, it also offers AI Chat Assistant, which is part of Pro. On Pro, you wait for the reset.
There is also a monthly usage ceiling on every workspace, Free or Pro, to keep running costs in check. If a workspace reaches it before its question allowance, the panel says the monthly assistant limit has been reached and when it resets.
Open a chat on the Flight Canvas
On Pro, the expand button at the top of the panel (Open on canvas) opens the conversation on the Flight Canvas, a larger board for working through a flight or a plan. The canvas is not available on Free.
If you do not see the assistant
If the panel says Assistant isn't set up yet, the assistant is not available on the service you are using. Contact support.
