Which browsers does Pilot Lab work in?
Use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. What to try when a page won't load or looks wrong.
Pilot Lab runs in your web browser, so there's nothing to install. It's built for current versions of the major browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari, on Mac, iPhone and iPad
As a rough guide, anything released from late 2022 onwards is fine (Chrome or Edge 107, Firefox 104, Safari 16 or newer). Older browsers may load the sign-in page but fail on the logbook itself. Internet Explorer isn't supported.
On a phone, use the browser that came with it (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android). See Using Pilot Lab on your phone.
If a page won't load or looks wrong
Try these in order. Most problems are fixed by the first two.
- Reload the page. After we release an update, an open tab can be running the old version. Pilot Lab usually notices this and reloads itself once, so a page that refreshes on its own just after an update is expected.
- Update your browser to the latest version, then restart it.
- Try a private or incognito window. If Pilot Lab works there, a browser extension (often an ad or script blocker) is getting in the way. Turn extensions off one at a time to find it, or allow app.pilotlab.app in it.
- Clear the site's data for app.pilotlab.app in your browser settings, then sign in again.
- Try another browser to see whether the problem follows you.
Maps are blank
Flight track maps and the weather views need your browser's graphics acceleration (WebGL). If the rest of Pilot Lab works but maps stay empty:
- Make sure hardware or graphics acceleration is turned on in your browser's settings.
- Update your graphics drivers on a Windows PC.
- On a work computer, a security policy may block it. Try a personal device to check.
Some things need a connection
Pilot Lab needs an internet connection and doesn't work offline. If you fill in a flight somewhere with poor signal, changes may not save. Check the entry once you're back in coverage.
