Using Pilot Lab on your phone
There's no app in the App Store or Google Play yet. Pilot Lab works in your phone's browser, and you can add it to your home screen.
There isn't a Pilot Lab app in the App Store or on Google Play yet. A native app for iPhone and Android is being built, but it isn't released, and we won't give a date until it is.
In the meantime, Pilot Lab works in the web browser on your phone or tablet. Sign in at app.pilotlab.app with the same email as on your computer. It's the same account and the same logbook, so a flight you add on your phone is there when you open your laptop.
Getting around on a small screen
On a phone the sidebar is hidden to leave room for the page. Tap the menu icon at the top left to open it. Help sits at the bottom of that menu, rather than along the bottom of the screen as it does on a computer. Settings is in the workspace menu at the top: tap your workspace's name.
The tour on a phone is shorter than on a computer. It stays on your list of entries and ends on adding your first flight or bringing your logbook in. Start it from Help ▸ Take the tour.
Some pages, like the full Entries list, have more columns than fit across a phone. Swipe sideways inside the table to see the rest. For long editing sessions, such as reviewing a big import, a computer or tablet is more comfortable.
Photographing logbook pages
The phone is the easiest way to scan a paper logbook. On Logbook ▸ Import, scanning is usually the first choice on a phone. Select Take photos to photograph each page with your phone's camera, or Add photos to pick pages you've already photographed, so there are no files to transfer. See Scan a paper logbook.
An export from another logbook app is usually on the computer you made it on. If you choose to import a file on a phone, Pilot Lab asks first, and can email you a link to finish on your computer. Select I have the file on this phone to carry on there instead.
Add Pilot Lab to your home screen
You can put an icon on your home screen that opens Pilot Lab full screen, without the browser's address bar. It's still the web app, not a separate download.
iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- Open app.pilotlab.app and sign in.
- Tap the Share button.
- Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Android (Chrome)
- Open app.pilotlab.app and sign in.
- Tap the menu (three dots) at the top right.
- Choose Add to Home screen or Install app, then confirm.
On an iPhone, the home-screen icon keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari's, so the first time you open it you may be asked to sign in again. Enter your email and the code as usual.
When the app arrives
When the native app is released, you'll sign in with the same account and everything you've logged in the browser will be there. We'll announce it on pilotlab.app.
