How do I delete my account and data?
Closing your account, what happens to your logbook, and how to have it erased. You always get a final copy first.
You can close your Pilot Lab account yourself from your profile settings. To take copies of your notes and documents first, see Export your data or close your account. Before anything is erased, Pilot Lab emails you a final export of your logbook and documents, so you keep a copy of your record whatever you decide.
Closing your account isn't the way to cancel a subscription. See Upgrade to Pro and manage your subscription to cancel Pro and keep using the free logbook.
Close your account
- Open your account menu (your picture or initials at the top right) and choose Security.
- Scroll to Deactivate your account and select the Deactivate your account button.
- Decide whether you also want your logbook erased (see below).
- Select Confirm, or Deactivate and erase if you ticked the erase option.
You're signed out straight away, on every device.
Keep or erase your logbook
The dialog gives you a choice.
Deactivate only (the default). Your account is closed, but your logbook record is kept. This suits most pilots. A logbook is a legal record, and keeping it means it can be recovered if you need it later.
Also permanently erase my logbook. Tick this if you want the content of your flights destroyed too. You'll need to type ERASE to confirm. When you do:
- The content of every flight entry, its earlier versions, your exports and any uploaded logbook photos are destroyed.
- Your conversations in the Pilot Lab inbox, such as messages with our support team, are removed too.
- Each entry is marked as erased rather than silently removed. Pilot Lab keeps a tamper-evident chain of your record, and that chain stays, so the record reads as erased rather than as altered.
- This can't be undone.
Your final export
Either way, Pilot Lab builds a complete export of your logbook and documents, including your inbox conversations, and emails you a download link. The link works for 7 days, so download the file soon after it arrives.
Erasure only happens after that export has been made and emailed. If for some reason the export can't be produced, nothing is erased and your record is left as it was.
If you can't deactivate
If you're the only admin of a club workspace, Pilot Lab won't let you close your account until someone else is an admin there too. You'll see "You cannot deactivate account as you are the only admin in some workspaces." Make another member an admin first, or contact the club.
Removing everything else
Deactivating and erasing covers your flight record. If you want your remaining account details removed as well (your name, email address and profile), or you'd like to request a copy of everything we hold about you, email support@pilotlab.app from the address on your account. Our privacy policy explains your rights.
Coming back
If you sign in again later with the same email address, your account reopens, but it starts with a new, empty logbook and takes you through set-up again. Your earlier logbook isn't reconnected automatically. If you didn't erase it and want it back, email support@pilotlab.app from that address before you start logging again, and we'll help.
